Douglas Engelbart, inventor of the computer mouse and a pioneer in the development of electronic mail, word processing and the Internet, died on Tuesday at his home in Atherton (California) at age 88. As a legacy to leave power radically changed the way we interact with computers. Today, where the recognition as Google Voice Now or Siri have expanded the functions of control over the machines, we recall the evolution that has taken the mouse over its history.

It was designed by Douglas Engelbart and Bill Inglés, according to several sources, in 1964, at the Stanford Research Institute, part of the University of Stanford. The company took over Xerox improvement in their labs in Palo Alto where he was awarded a new look.

The first prototype was built by hand. Construidido was wood and was patented under the name of "XY Position Indicator for a Display System". Viewed from the perspective afforded by time, this first mouse has an almost prehistoric, archaic, but its basic functions are still intact today.

He had a square design, as if it were a cobblestone, and it had two metal wheels, to move across a surface, moving two axes (horizontal movement and vertical). Popularly called it "bug".
